A Thera of Pagan. He wrote a Pāḷi grammar, the Saddaniti, in 1154 (Gv.63; SvD.v.1238; Sās.74). He was tutor to King Narapati Sithu of Pagan (Bode, 16).
The Gandhavaṃsa calls him a native of Jambudīpa (p.67), but his name occurs among the famous residents in the retired monastery of the northern plateau above Pagan, the cradle of Pāḷi-
