1. Ambapāli Sutta.– Taught at Ambapālivana.¹ The four foundations of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhānā) are the only way that leads to the purification of beings, and to the realisation of nibbāna, etc. S.v.140.
¹ This occasion was just prior to the donation of the grove to the Saṅgha. Because Ambapāli was extremely beautiful (although now sixty years of age), the Buddha instructed the monks in the practice of mindfulness so that they would not even look at Ambapāli when she arrived (ed.)
2. Ambapālivana Sutta.– A conversation between Anuruddha and Sāriputta in Ambapālivana. Sāriputta asks the reason of Anuruddha’s serenity and beauty of complexion. It is due to the practice of the four foundations of mindfulness, says Anuruddha; he himself spends all his time in the practice of them, and so generally do all Arahants. S.v.301.
