The forest that overgrew Kāliṅga when it was laid waste through the wickedness of King Daṇḍakī (q.v.) (M.i.378; Mil.130).
It was on the banks of the Godāvarī and, with the Viñjhātavi, separated the Majjhimadesa from the Dakkhiṇāpatha. It probably comprised all the forests from Bundelkhand to the river Krishna.
