Dutiya Aññatarabhikkhu Sutta

1. Dutiya Aññatarabhikkhu Sutta.– A certain monk asks the Buddha for a teaching in brief. The Buddha says that if one has an underlying tendency towards something, then one is measured in accordance with it. The monk says he has understood, so the Buddha asks him how he has understood the meaning. The monk replies that he has understood it as an underlying tendency towards forms, feelings, perception, mental formations and consciousness. The Buddha approves of his reply. S.iii.36.

2. Dutiya Aññatarabhikkhu Sutta.– A monk asks the Buddha the meaning of the removal of lust, ill-will, and delusion. The Buddha says that is a designation of nibbāna. The bhikkhu then asks about the deathless (amata) and the path to it. The Buddha says that the destruction of lust, ill-will, and delusion is the deathless. The way leading to it is the Noble Eightfold Path. S.v.8.
