Esanā Sutta
A group of suttas on the three kinds of longing (esanā) the longing for sensual delights, for becoming, for the holy life. These are spoken of in relation to the Noble Eightfold Path (S.v.54 f). The same is repeated for:
- the seven factors of enlightenment (bojjhaṅga) (S.v.136),
- the four foundations of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) (S.v.191),
- the five controlling faculties (indriya) (S.v.240, 242),
- the five powers (bala) (S.v.250, 252),
- the four bases of success (iddhipāda) (S.v.291), and
- the absorptions (jhāna) (S.v.309).
