Paṭipadā Sutta

1. Paṭipadā Sutta.– The Buddha teaches the wrong way of practice and the right way. The wrong way is: dependent on ignorance, mental formations arise … thus arises this whole mass of suffering. The right way is: with the complete cessation of ignorance, mental formations cease … thus this mass of suffering ceases. S.ii.4.

2. Paṭipadā Sutta.– The Buddha teaches both the way leading to the arising of identity and the way leading to its cessation. The uninstructed ordinary persons regards form as self, feeling as self, perception as self, mental formations as self, consciousness as self. This is the way leading to the arising of identity.  The well instructed noble disciple does not regard form as self … this is the way leading to the cessation of identity. S.iii.43.

3. Paṭhama Paṭipadā Sutta.– Similar to 1 above. S.v.18.

4. Dutiya Paṭipadā Sutta.– The Buddha praises either a household or one gone-forth who follows the right practice, he does not praise one who follows the wrong practice. S.v.18 f.
