A minister of Magadha, who, with Vassakāra, was in charge of the fortifications of Pāṭaligāma, built in order to repel the Vajjī . These two are always mentioned together.
They invited the Buddha to a meal, and, after his departure, named the gate by which he had left the city Gotamadvāra, and the ford by which he crossed the Gaṅgā, Gotamatittha. Vin.i.228 f; D.ii.86 f; Ud.viii.6.
