Vatapada Sutta
Monks, formerly, when Sakka was a human being, he undertook and observed seven vows by reason of which he now enjoys the status of Sakka. What are those seven vows?
- As long as I live I will support my mother and father,
- As long as I live I will honour the family elders,
- As long as I live I will speak gently,
- As long as I live I will not speak divisively,
- As long as I live I will be without stinginess, delighting in giving and sharing freely,
- As long as I live I will speak truthfully,
- As long as I live I will be without anger, but if anger arises I will dispel it quickly.
