Pāḷi Pronunciation

Pāḷi is the language of the Buddhist texts, which were handed down by oral tradition.
The texts may be written using any modern script, whether that is Devanagari (used for Hindi), Burmese, Sinhalese, Thai, or Roman.
For Pāḷi in Roman script, macron accents are used over long vowels, and dots below indicate dental consonants — pronounced with the tongue touching the back of the teeth.
These accented letters are included in my free Verajja Pāḷi font, which is now embedded in the site.
